Bruce Lamb's Eventing Blog - September 2012

September 8, 2012: Well, we've had a pretty good summer. We're currently sitting in 2nd place in Ontario in the Training Senior division. We've won 3 events (2 at Woodwind, 1 at Lane's End), and added a 2nd (Grandview), a 4th (Equus) and an 8th (Wit's End). But we've had a challenge with certain fences that have caused us to not be in the top results. A ditch at Glen Oro, a jump approaching water at both Will O' Wind and Grandview (plus another fence at Grandview), a Corner fence at Caledon. And then, today, another ditch at the 2012 OHTA Championships at Grandview.

It was pouring rain for dressage, and my mark sucked (62 penalty points). But I could have salvaged something with a half decent XC run.

Looking at the video afterwards, I see that there was an issue with a post that was coloured differently than the rest of the ditch fence. Gamble saw it and planted the brakes. 15 seconds later, though, we were back on course and he did everything else without question.

Here is the HelmetCam video:

Tori was with me to help with grooming and had to get back to UWO for a meeting with her study group by 3:30 on the Sunday when the Stadium Jumping was to run. I was sitting in 11th place out of 18 starters but there was no way I would make it into the top 8 finishers so we withdrew from the remainder of the competition so that we could get her back in time.
