Bruce Lamb's Eventing Blog - April 2013

April 8, 2013 - Today the weather was crappy outside, so instead of my cardio workout with Gamble, we did a bit of grid work with an oxer and vertical separated by 4 strides. Rachel did a few lower fences on Charcoal, and Margaret Edward-Jones was there and was kind enough to be the ground crew!

We worked Gamble up gradually to a 3'6" (1.1 m.) high by 4' wide oxer -- so we're getting close to the size of the big table fence that I've built for XC. I need to get up to 1.15m high (3'9") x 1.4m (4'6") spread for my largest fence for Preliminary level this year, so we're pretty close already.

We got a "new" saddle from Tom and Nan Taylor at Taylor Made Too Saddlery in Carlisle Ontario (near Denfield) for Gamble because we couldn't find anything that fit him. Even a brand new Eventer saddle by Thornhill with a replaceable gullet was too wide for his shark-finned withers! Too bad, because it was a beautiful saddle -- almost a work of art! Anyhow, Tom re-stuffed this much older saddle and it appears to work well.
